30+ years teaching aquatic safety to children from 6 months to competitive level.
Founder of Cogua Aquatics and creator of the Water With Purpose™ Method — the only aquatic program in the Chino area designed with emotional adaptation, survival skills, and visible progress at its core.
Giovanni has worked with hundreds of families in Chino, CA — from babies afraid of the bathtub to competitive swimmers. His approach is simple: no child learns to swim until they feel safe. No parent leaves without knowing exactly what to do.
«Before we teach your baby to swim, we teach them to trust.»
— Giovanni Cogua
We accept babies starting at 6 months old. The program runs through 24 months, after which children transition into our full swim levels program.
Yes, when done correctly and progressively. We follow a step-by-step acclimation process. Nothing is rushed. Your baby sets the pace, and we guide you on exactly how to introduce each new step safely.
Absolutely — in fact, it's designed for this. The first pillar of our method is emotional adaptation. Before we teach a single skill, we help your baby build trust with the water at their own pace. No forcing, no rushing.
Yes. Both parents are welcome. We do recommend consistency — the same adult in the water each class helps the baby build routine and trust faster.
A swim diaper (required), a swimsuit for you, a towel, and a change of clothes for baby. We provide everything else.
We recommend 2–3 classes per week for steady progress. The more consistent the schedule, the faster your baby builds comfort and skills.
Crying is completely normal — especially in the first 1–3 classes. Our instructors are trained to read your baby's signals and adjust the pace. We never force any step. Most babies who cry in class 1 are laughing by class 3.
The biggest difference is the instructor-to-baby ratio and the methodology. At the YMCA, one instructor manages 4–6 pairs at once. Here, Giovanni or a trained Cogua instructor focuses entirely on you and your baby for the full 25 minutes — with a documented plan and a safety-first philosophy that doesn't exist anywhere else in the area.
